John
C. Maxwell knows about leadership, and he’s helping to spread his knowledge
wherever he can.
Maxwell
is an accomplished speaker and pastor, and travels frequently to motivationally speak for groups as Fortune 500 companies, international government leaders, and
other organizations. He is also the author of more than 70 books focused
primarily on leadership, some of which have gotten recognition on the New York Times
Best Seller List.
“I keep
telling people that the secret of their success is discovered in their daily
agenda,” Maxwell said in an interview with Christian Book Previews.
Maxwell
plans to share his leadership knowledge with university students when he speaks
at High Point University on March 19.
“…Successful
people make important decisions early in their life, and then they manage those
decisions the rest of their life,” Maxwell said in his Christian Book Previews
interview.
Maxwell
made his first early life decision when he was 17 and on his school’s
basketball team. One of the best players, he wondered when he would become
captain of the team.
Maxwell’s
coach explained that another player would be captain, however, because he had a
good attitude, encouraged other players and never gave up. Maxwell said that
hearing that from the coach made him vow to have a positive attitude for the
rest of his life.
“I
remember as a seventeen-year-old kid saying, ‘If attitude made me captain of
this team, I’m going to have a good attitude all my life,’” Maxwell told
Christian Book Previews.
He
continues to uphold a good attitude every day, now more than 50 years later.
Maxwell
founded the John Maxwell Co. and EQUIP, both of which assist in leadership
training around the world. They both feature leadership tactics and training
resources, but EQUIP focuses on Christian leadership whereas the John Maxwell
Co. focuses on overall, general leadership.
High
Point University is one place that Maxwell will speak this year, as the
headliner for the HPU Cultural Enrichment Series.
“I
am extremely excited to learn more about leadership before I leave HPU and
enter the ‘real world,’” said HPU senior entrepreneurship major Andrew Kellner.
“I’ve read a lot about him and I can’t wait to actually hear him speak.”
Maxwell
will headline two events during his time at HPU. The first, “A Conversation
with HPU President Nido R. Qubein” will be held at 4:30 p.m. in the Hayworth
Fine Arts Center and will be modeled as a question and answer session. The
second event, a presentation by Maxwell, will take place at 7 p.m. in the Fine
Arts Center. Tickets are complimentary and required for both events.
Students
will learn leadership tactics and other advice from Maxwell at both events. For
those that are unable to attend, the event will be aired on UNC-TV in the
months following the event.
“John is an
internationally respected authority on leadership and human development,” said
Dr. Nido Qubein, president of HPU. “His message will be substantive and
enlightening for our students who are preparing to become leaders themselves.”
